Three Cheers For The Red, White & Blue

Three Cheers For The Red, White & Blue

Wicked Fun Fact: Did you know that Cava is a sparkling wine that MUST come from Spain while Prosecco is a sparkling wine that MUST come from Italy?! At Global Wines we offer a variety of sparkling wines that are perfect for celebrations and holidays. With the 4th of July right around the corner, you’ll definitely want to try a few of our stand-out “sparklers” (that may have you shining brighter than your holiday fireworks)!

Borgo del Col Alto Prosecco is a portfolio favorite. It’s bright, bubbly and delicious while Flama d’Or Cava Brut is more intense and vivacious with notes of elegant green apple.

Our Borgo del Col Alto Prosecco Spumante Rosé has notes of strawberry and raspberry with floral aromatics. This wine is soft and well balanced with a dry, lasting finish. The Flama d’Or Cava Rosé is similar with a strawberry flavor but unique in its cranberry notes.

One of our favorite organics, ERA Prosecco, has some hints of peach, green apple and acacia with a long, persistent aftertaste. If you’re a fan of no added sulfites in your wines, this Prosecco, made with organically grown grapes is for you!

Thinking about throwing a party? Try one of our favorite recipes [that pair perfectly with our sparkling wines] to get a few OOOHH’s and AHHH’s even before the fireworks go off!

Step 1: Make the Dough

In a food processor, pulse flour, salt and sugar. Add butter and shortening and pulse until the mixture resembles small peas. Add the ice water and pulse until evenly moistened. Turn the dough out onto a work surface and gather into a ball. Divide dough half and form two disks. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour. Note: If you don’t have a food processor, a manual dough blender works just as well

 Step 2: Make the Filling

While the dough is chilling, combine berries, sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest and salt in a medium bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to use.

Step 3: Cut out the Crusts

Preheat oven to 375F. Remove 1 dough disk from refrigerator. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough until about 1/8″ thick. Use a cookie cutter to cut out star shapes. Place stars onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Repeat process until you have used all the dough. You want an even number of stars as half will be the pie tops and half, bottoms.

Remove filling from refrigerator. Place a scoop of filling in the center of each pie bottom. Cover with reserved pie tops and seal by pressing edges together with a fork. In a small bowl whisk egg. Brush sealed pies with egg.

Bake until berries bubble and crust is lightly browned on top, about 25 minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
